What is sugaring? Sugaring is a hair removal method that uses a sugar paste to remove hair from the root. The hair is removed by scooping the sugar paste into the hair, going against the direction of the hair growth. It is then removed using a repeated flicking motion in the same direction as your body hair growth to remove the hair from the root.
The sugar paste is all-natural and made of lemon, sugar, and water–and that’s it! It’s an excellent alternative to waxing for those who may be concerned about wax ingredients and sensitivities.
For years Brazilian waxing was the only option for those who wanted to achieve smooth, hair-less results. Now, Brazilian sugaring is growing in popularity for all the right reasons.

Countless clients who have tried both sugar and wax have said that sugar is less uncomfortable. With any hair removal method, there will be some discomfort because the hair is removed from the root. But you should never be in pain. Sugaring doesn’t require heat, so it may be more comfortable for those who are sensitive to the heat of the wax.
Fewer ingrowns? Yes, please! Sugaring exfoliates the skin as it removes hair, reducing the likelihood of ingrown hairs, which is especially beneficial for those prone to them or those with sensitive skin. Another advantage of sugaring is that the hair removal technique follows the direction of the hair, as opposed to against it, and therefore, is less likely to cause breakage which can also lead to ingrown hairs.
As we mentioned earlier, the sugar paste is all-natural! There are no chemicals or harsh ingredients. It’s simply sugar, lemon, and water, making sugaring an excellent alternative for those that do not tolerate waxing well. Since the sugar paste is applied by hand, it is environmentally friendly. There’s no need for multiple wooden applicators that you have to use with wax.
One thing that can be difficult for clients is the grow-out phase, especially for your first Brazilian sugar or wax. One of the great things about sugaring is that it can remove shorter hairs because the sugar can “seep” inside the follicle to grab the hair, which means you don’t need to grow out as long as you typically would need to with wax.
The long-lasting results are one of the best things about Brazilian sugaring, especially when compared to shaving. With consistent sugaring, some clients have reported permanent hair loss or reduction. Hair removal services are performed every three to four weeks and up to six weeks, which helps to thin out the number and thickness of the hairs. If possible, the time between appointments should never be longer than eight weeks to avoid hair rerooting, which causes the most discomfort. At that point, we lose the benefit of sugar (less pain, less hair, speed of service) when we don’t treat monthly.
Brazilian sugaring is an excellent alternative to other hair removal methods like waxing or shaving. With its natural ingredients, less discomfort, less in-grown hairs, less grow-out time, and long-lasting results, sugaring is quickly becoming the go-to for hair removal.
