One of the first things people ask me (sometimes with wide, terrified eyes) is: Does Brazilian sugaring hurt? Look, I won’t sugarcoat it (pun absolutely intended) – you will feel something. We’re pulling hair out from the root, not giving you a gentle tickle. But is it unbearable? Absolutely not. And if it is unbearable, something is wrong. Pain is never the goal. Discomfort? Sure. But I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve to make this as smooth – literally – as possible.

I’ve been in the professional hair removal game for 20 years – waxing, sugaring, and making people feel their absolute best. That means I’ve seen every type of hair, skin, and pain tolerance imaginable. I’ve had first-timers who flinched before I even touched them and veterans who could take a full Brazilian while scrolling through their phones like nothing was happening. Everyone’s different, and that’s why I customize each appointment to make it as painless as possible. I don’t just slap on some sugar and rip it off – I use technique, pressure, and strategy to make the experience way more comfortable than you’re probably imagining right now.

So, if you’re nervous, take a deep breath. You’re in very good hands.

Before we talk about making it hurt less, let’s break down what Brazilian sugaring actually is.

Sugaring, known for its natural ingredients and gentle technique, has become a go-to hair removal method – and here’s why:

  • Allergies & Sensitivities: Sugar is only made up of 3 ingredients – sugar, water, and lemon juice. (Yes, it’s so clean you could eat it, but please don’t.) So, it’s completely all-natural and hypoallergenic. Great for our girlies who are sensitive to the heat from the wax, or have allergies to its ingredients.
  • Skin-Friendly: Sugar is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth so the sugar can seep into the follicle to get a stronger hold of the hair. This allows the hairs to be removed in the natural direction of hair growth. Meaning, less hair breakage, less ingrowns and less irritation.
  • No Burns: Unlike waxing, sugaring paste is typically used at room temperature, eliminating the risk of burns associated with hot wax.

A Brazilian sugar? That’s the VIP package. We’re removing hair from the front, the sides, the top, between the cheeks – wherever you want. Want to leave a little landing strip or triangle? You got it. Want it all gone? Also an option. It’s your body, your rules.

Your first Brazilian? Yeah, that one’s gonna be the spiciest. But guess what? If you keep up with it (every 4-6 weeks), and get on our maintenance program, it gets way easier. Why? Because your hair grows back finer, softer, and in way smaller quantities. Some people even experience permanent hair loss over time. (Uh, yes please!)

Skip your regular appointments? Expect to start from square one. Consistency is the key to making this a breeze.

If you want to make your Brazilian sugaring experience as smooth as your soon-to-be skin, here’s what you need to do:

✅ Homecare = less discomfort next time. Taking care of your skin between appointments is just as important as showing up for them. Proper home care makes your next Brazilian sugar way easier (and less uncomfortable). That means moisturizing daily to keep your skin soft and hydrated – because when your skin is in good shape, the hair slides out more easily. But here’s the deal: stop exfoliating 3-5 days before your appointment to avoid unnecessary sensitivity.

I sell various clean, natural products that I highly recommend to my clients in the studio and on The V Lady’s website. Free shipping on ALL orders – no minimums! Plus, enjoy a free gift with every online purchase.

✅ Skip the caffeine. I know, I know – asking you to avoid coffee is cruel. But caffeine makes your skin more sensitive, which means more discomfort.

✅ Pop a pain reliever. If you’re really worried, an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory (like ibuprofen) about 30 minutes before your appointment can help. But check with your physician first if you’re unsure.

I do everything I can to keep you comfortable during your appointment – pressure, breathing techniques, you name it. But you can help, too!

  • Hold your skin taut when I tell you – it makes a huge difference. I will literally place your hands where I need them.
  • Breathe. Holding your breath makes things worse. Deep inhales, deep exhales. Trust me.
  • Distract yourself. Chat with me, think about your weekend plans – anything to keep your mind off it, and I am here to help you with that.

Brazilian sugaring isn’t pain-free, but it’s totally manageable – and it gets way easier with time. A few seconds of discomfort for weeks of silky-smooth skin? That’s a trade-off I’d make any day.
