If you’re considering a Brazilian sugar for the first time, you may be wondering what to expect. A Brazilian sugar removes the hair on the front of the pubic bone, around the external genitals, between the upper thighs, and between the cheeks. Depending on your preferences, you can remove all hair in the area or leave a small strip or triangle in the front. This differs from a bikini sugar, which includes approximately four-finger widths from the crease of the body and just inside the underwear lines. After a bikini sugar, nothing shows from the pubic area while wearing underwear or a small bikini. It does not include the entire labia, the entire pubic bone, or between the cheeks.
One common question we get is “Does a Brazilian hurt”? This will vary from person to person, depending on your pain threshold. There is a bit of discomfort as the hair comes out by the root. When done properly, you will feel discomfort but should not be in pain. If you are nervous about getting a Brazilian, we recommend first trying a bikini wax or a bikini sugar.
Before your appointment, you can avoid caffeine (coffee or soda), as that can contribute to discomfort. You may also benefit from taking an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory or pain reliever, such as ibuprofen, before your appointment. Please refer to your doctor before taking any medications.
It is always recommended that you shower on the day of your sugaring appointment. It’s important to refrain from intimate activities before a Brazilian sugar or bikini sugar.
We recommend using the facilities and cleansing both the front and backside of the genital area before your Brazilian sugar. Individually-wrapped, single-use, wet wipes are provided to freshen up before your Brazilian hair removal. It is safe for front or back usage but not internal. Hair removal services will not be done on areas with leftover urine, discharge, fecal matter, or foreign objects like toilet paper, etc.
Comfort is the key and you want to ensure your clothing has enough breathing room. Avoid wearing garments that are too tight and restrictive in the areas that are being treated. Prioritize clean, loose, and comfortable clothing. For a Brazilian Sugar, you’ll want to wear cotton, non-thong undergarments.
We recommend blocking off 30-45 minutes, but the sugaring itself will take less time.
Prior to the hair removal service, your sugaring specialist will review your health history form to confirm that nothing should interfere with the service and that you are safe to proceed.
Once your health form has been reviewed, your sugaring specialist will give instructions on how to “get ready.” They will leave the room for your privacy to undress from the waist down. After a brief moment, they will return to discuss the day’s treatment and your last visit/service when applicable.
Every service at The V Lady is customized to your body, skin, and needs. We always start with clean hands and clean gloves. We’ll ask you to position your body to allow access to the treatment area, and your sugaring specialist will adjust any towels and drapes.
Before hair removal begins, we prep the treatment area by cleansing any oils, bacteria, or debris with a cleanser chosen for your skin. Next, a protective barrier layer is applied, generally a powder (clay-based, potato starch and talc-free, of course). Finally, the pattern and direction of the hair growth are determined, and the Brazilian sugar begins.
Up to 2 days after your treatment, please avoid the following:
Any exercise and/or sauna treatments should be avoided after your Brazilian sugar.
The idea here is the protect your skin, and keep it free from friction and bacteria. So please take that as our general rule of thumb for aftercare.
At The V Lady, we make customized home care recommendations to round out your treatments and maintain your skin and results. Moisturizers, exfoliants, and ingrown serums are all available.
Hair removal services are performed every four weeks for optimal results. This helps to thin out the number of hairs and the thickness of the hairs. Under certain circumstances, you can be treated as early as three weeks and as late as six in the situation of an event or special occasion, or vacation. However, never go longer than eight weeks, as the hairs will be given the opportunity to “reroot” and become strong again. At that point, you lose the benefit of wax (less pain, less hair, speed of service) when we don’t treat monthly.
